In stark contrast to the previous post, here's the late great Jacqueline Du Pre playing a small portion of Saint-saens' cello concerto in A minor - one of my favorite pieces. She plays it with such precision, passion and intensity it brings me to tears. My youngest, Sean, played this piece for NYSSMA one year before he injured his bowing hand. How I miss the cello's soulful song!

Oh, Stella! One of my favorite instruments! Sean doesn't play anymore? I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what the must do to both of you.
I think the cello is such a spiritual instrument. Shubert's piano trios move me like nothing else.
I just saw this. No, he can't play. His bowing hand swells up every time he tries. It's sad because he was a terrific musician with amazing hands. Breaks my heart.
